The family bond caused old feelings to reemerge in his mother which lead to the conception and birth of Riley.

Luckily his close friendship with his neighbor Cairo (who appeared in the episode “wingmen” in the first season) gave Huey and Riley a place to eat whenever their mother fell short which became more and more often the next two years.

It is strongly suggested that Huey's and Riley's birth parents are deceased. Make so much sense.

Eventually the void for a male figure had been filled in the form of a Green Beret who returned home in hopes of finding the good girl that he could never get to know back in high-school because of her father’s protectiveness.
