Given how dry June has been, did not have problems with high streams or mud. Being nearly 42 miles in length, the trail is ideal for backpacking. The trail between the Ralph's views and Six Mile Run Rd are mostly all of the same scenery like this which can seem like you aren't actually getting anywhere.

The Allegheny Front Trail, a relatively new trail in western Centre County, was built collaboratively in the late 1990s by Penn State Outing Club, Ridge & Valley Outings Club, Quehanna Area Trails Club and the Keystone Trails Association.The trail provides a wide variety of forest environments, including views over valleys to the east, trout streams, and marshlands. Started off at night and got about 4 miles in, 21 the next day, and 17 the last.

I would definitely hike the aft again in a more dry period!I really enjoyed the trail. Fresh water seemed to be super plentiful especially at all of the camp spots. Absolutely magical. Pretty obvious from the color that something is off. It’s been dry so a lot of the creeks on the south side were dried up. Volunteer trail building crews from all across PA were assembled. Most heavily overgrown portion on north side was segment along Black Moshannon where the rhododendron was really creeping in the whole way and was basically pushing through it.

Other than the initial opening across the nice new board walk and wooden planks, the trail moves away from the lake area so you don't exactly see anything of it other than some swampy areas.

(That was my experience at least) This was my first large solo hike and it is forever engrained in my being. Overall, has an amazing time and we are very proud of ourselves! Allegheny Front Trail is a 39 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Philipsburg, Pennsylvania that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate.

Calling this moderate is a stretch, it gets pretty technical.I hiked this in one day with my friend, who already mentioned that that was a terrible idea. It's a nice enough trail with only a few tough parts, so overnight would probably be more enjoyable than our hellish day hike.Did about half of the loop during an overnight trip. Only hiked a small portion. Some trails or park services may be closed this weekend so check with local authorities before heading out.

The Allegheny Front Trail starts at the PA 504 trailhead, circumnavigating the State Park in a clockwise direction, starting at the "3 o'clock" position, with yellow blazes painting all 41 miles of the trail. It took 20 hoursDid the loop in under two days during a snowy period a day after a few inches of rain. To provide variety and shorter routes the Moss-Hanne and Shingle Mill Trails would be added as cross connectors right through the heart of the state park.
