Lucknow, May 9 (PTI) Two new municipal corporations for Ayodhya-Faizabad and Mathura-Vrindavan will come up soon, the Uttar Pradesh government decided today.The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath here.The idea behind the decision is to provide better amenities to pilgrims, UP cabinet minister Shrikant Sharma told reporters.The Ayodhya Municipal Corporation will cover the twin cities of Faizabad and Ayodhya, while Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation will look after the civic needs in the two pilgrim towns, he said.Sharma said once these civic bodies are in place, more funds will be available from the government for ensuring better facilities for the local areas.He said the state government was committed to improve the rail, road and air connectivity to Ayodhya so that devotees do not face any problem reaching there.Sharma, who is an MLA from Mathura, said apart from domestic pilgrims, visitors from abroad throng the temple town and there was need for improvement in civic facilities there.Once these civic bodies are in place, all round development will follow, he said.During a recent presentation of urban development department, the chief minister had discussed the option of transforming Ayodhya-Faizabad and Mathura-Vrindavan into municipal corporations.The cabinet also approved the draft of a new street vendor policy whose focus will be to constitute an umbrella body for their welfare, Sharma said.A committee, headed by the municipal commissioner, will be constituted to regulate the unorganised vendors and also decide vending zones so as to protect them from being fleeced by police, he added.
