I have the Smolensk and it is as Brushwolf said. you ruined CV play with the CV rework (loved the old CVs), now they're just annoying to play and I don't blame anyone else for not liking them on or against their team, so why play one?

Go ahead and fire high at the BB with the HE as some damage is better than waiting for a reload that you might or might not get to shoot at something. Fix it. Furthermore, making a firebreathing CA like the smolensk and claiming it's balanced by it's lack of armor means nothing if the only AP rounds that don't overpen it are on a Shimakaze.

Funny enough, I've been enjoying ranked because the healing buffs really work to make HE useless. Despite its high rate of fire, it can only use DE or it won't do damage over time effectively. That gives you the initiative.

Coupled with their slow turret turning speeds, Russian destroyers will struggle against the American destroyers in a close-range gunnery knife fight. The reality is the smolensk has too many hps, takes too long to burn down, and if you don't use your HE rounds is basically unsinkable unless you're able to cit it, oh right. All 4 overpenned.

While there are many screwy quirks to the way WG implemented armor penetration, overpenetration was a real thing. If you put distance between yourself and a Smol in smoke, you pretty much force the Smol to engage something else.
