I have always enjoyed reading these poems since my High-School days over 50 years ago. At one time, Persian was a common cultural language of much of the non-Arabic Islamic world. A third variation is to use the same metre as above, but with the eighth and ninth syllables reversed: More questions arise when reading his Rubaiyat, than answers can be given.
